Qurbani Udhiyah In Islam

Qurbani Or Udhiyah In Islam

“Sincerity and purity are the most important part of Qurbani” (Quran 5:27)

  • What is Qurbani or Udhiyah?

Qurbani (Udhiyah) is the practice of sacrifice, commemorated annually as a rite of Hajj on the 10th of Dhul-Hajj on Eid Ul Adha in the memory of the tremendous sacrificial ritual of Ibrahim and Ismail (A.S). Sacrifice in the name of Allah is performed after Rammi on Jamarat-ul Aqabah; animals for the cause can be camels, cows, and lambs. Muslims worldwide offer sacrifice and celebrate Eid Ul Adha on that day. Allah's Messenger (S.A.W) said: "On the day of sacrifice, no one does a deed more pleasing to Allah than the shedding of blood. The sacrifice will come on the Day of Resurrection with its horns, hair, and hooves, and the blood finds acceptance with Allah before it falls on the ground, so be glad about it."

  • Why do only Muslims give Qurbani?

On the 10th of Dhull-Hajj, only Muslims give Qurbani; it is in the Quran as Allah states: "Therefore turn in prayer to your Lord and sacrifice (to Him only)." (The Holy Qur'an, 108:2) and Holy Prophet (PBUH) also offered a sacrifice "The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stayed in Madinah for 11 years, offering sacrifice (every year on Eid)." (Ahmad and Tirmidhi)

  • What is the value of Qurbani or Udhiyah in the eyes of Muslims?

Performing Qurbani is essential to being a Muslim; it demonstrates your obedience and dedication to Allah (SWT) and ensures you follow His wishes by supporting those in need worldwide. "The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stayed in Madinah for 11 years, offering sacrifice (every year on Eid)." (Ahmad and Tirmidhi)

  • What is an Udhiyah donation?

Many people worldwide cannot afford the basic necessity of meat, depriving them of the nutrients their body requires. Udhiyah donation is when people donate their Qurbani to feed the poor, so When you donate "1 Qurbani," your donation equals one sheep or goat OR 1/7 of a cow, bull, or buffalo. Your donation can provide about 50 pounds (sheep/goat) to 70 pounds (cow/bull/buffalo/ox) of fresh meat, feeding about 5 to 10 families. Donation of your Qurbani is a form of Sadqiyah e Jariah as Quran states"That they may witness benefits for themselves and mention the name of Allah on known days over what He has provided for them of cattle. So eat of them and feed the poor."

– The Holy Qur'an, 22:28

Scholars generally regard the practice of Udhiya as either an actual practice of the Prophet (Sunnah Mu'akadah) or an outright obligation (wajib).

Fitra in Eid ul Adha.

Different rituals are performed each Eid. In Eid al Fitr, Muslims give Fitra, while at Eid al Adha, an animal is slaughtered, and the meat is distributed amongst the underprivileged, family, and friends.

  • How many days of Eid ul Adha sacrifice in Makkah?

Sacrifice is offered after Eid prayer by all Muslims other than the pilgrims; Eid Zabiha can be performed during the three days. The Prophet (PBUH) said, "All the Tashriq days(10th, 11th, and 12th of Dhull-Hijjah) are days of Slaughtering" (Ahmad).
